Apples To Apples – Great Game For All The Family

June 6, 2011.

I bought Apples to Apples last year in October as a game for our family to play over the Christmas holidays. This seemed like a good game, it had certainly received a lot of praise online.

It is the #24 best selling game on amazon.com. If that is not enough to convince you, then you please continue reading this review to get my experiences with this game.

I have 2 children, 1 is 12 and 1 is 14 years old. The box had clearly stated that the game was suitable for children aged 12 and up. Upon playing the game however I did find that “some” of the material is aimed more at mid teens than it is at 12 year olds. But there was no real problem when it came to playing the game.

The rules of the game are as follows. You have “red” apple cards dealt to you at the start of each round, then the judge (the judge rotates, so each player gets a chance to be judge) flips over a green card. The red cards all have “nouns” on them, while the green cards all have “adjectives” on them. The objective of the game is to match the nouns to the adjectives as best as you can. There are of course no rules as to what the “right” answer is so the judge has to decide.

Because there are so many potential answers the judge will most likely choose the answer that appeals to him or her. So a player might be best (depending on the judge of course) going for a silly answer. If the judge finds the non adjective combo to be amusing or silly they could choose that one for that reason, not because it makes the most sense for example.

Thanks for taking the time out of your day to look over this review of Apples to Apples. I thoroughly recommend this game.
