Life can be depressing and stressful, and even children sometimes turn to drugs, and child rahab is necessary. It is especially hard for children to understand why life cannot be fair and feel wonderful.
They do not consider the horrible outcome of using drugs to feel good. Many young people believe they are entitled to feel good all the time. However, even Jesus suffered a lot. According to John 1633 everybody will have trouble in this world, but that Christ has overcome the world. So Christian rehab can be more successful than treatments that do not rely on the Highest Power.
There are many places, in lots of states, that offer such rehabilitation. Your local pastor or youth pastor may be able to recommend one and respect your privacy. Treatment varies by center, though there are some things that will likely be in all of them. People at these clinics will pray with people and tell them about God’s forgiveness. They encourage those who have no self control to rely on God, when their own strength fails. Education for both parents and children is helpful.
Such places should not refuse to use other forms of help available, believing God will magically do it all. People were given the ability to develop helpful tools because God expects us to use them. Therapy, detox, and sometimes medication, can still be used.
Ideally parents will be able to keep their children free of drugs and alcohol, but that can be difficult, especially without placing restrictions on your offspring. There is nothing wrong with refusing to completely trust your teenager. Try to remember as much as you can about your teenage years. Rather your parents were too strict or to easy or just right, the odds are you did a lot of things you regret and had more trouble controlling your emotions. Now that drugs are so much easier to get, there is more potential for children to really mess up, very easily. Talking and praying with your children is very helpful, but it is not a good idea to then assume they will always make the right decision even if they allowed to be in the wrong situations.
