Comparing and Contrasting Acne Products

May 29, 2011.

With so many different acne products, and home remedies for acne floating around on the market, it can be overwhelming to know which product or home remedy is right for you. Everyone has a different skin type.

For me, I have a combination of oily and dry, flaky skin. It also doesn’t help matters that my skin is highly sensitive as well. So you can imagine that trying to find an acne product that works for my skin type can be very difficult.

For people with very sensitive skin (like me) you will want to opt for an acne scar treatment that contain salicylic acid, instead of the traditional benzoyl peroxide. Benzoyl peroxide can dry out sensitive skin and can cause redness and irritation. I know from personal experience that benzoyl peroxide is harsh. (Actually my skin is so sensitive that the salicylic acid treatments are also too harsh for my skin. But then again, I’m probably an anomaly.) The salicylic acid treatments as just as effective as the ones that contain benzoyl peroxide, except that they will not dry out your skin.

For those who suffer from extremely oily skin, the typical benzoyl peroxide treatments may work, but you may also have to go see a dermatologist for prescription medication that can keep the oil, and therefore your acne, in check.

If you have dry skin, I would recommend using the salicylic acid treatments. If your skin is already dry to begin with, you do not want to use a product that will dry it out even further. There are some home remedies for acne that you can try as well, such as a homemade avocado mask. This will provide your skin with not only the moisture, but also the nutrients that it needs.

There are many different types of skin out there. The best way to determine which product will be best for you is to consult a professional who has experience with skin care.
