Computer Shipping that’s Super Simple

May 3, 2012.

If you think waiting for a package to arrive in the mail is bad, imagine if you are waiting for a computer to get there! Will there be cracks all over the screen? Will it get there all in one piece? Did it go through freezing temperatures? Did the insides start melting in a hot, hot truck? If your computer was shipped the right way, your answer should always be a resounding no. If you are such the (un)lucky one, waiting on your new equipment to get there, the computer shipping is beyond your control.

But, if you happen to be the sender, you can take steps to make sure that your expensive package gets there safely in good condition, such as using computer shipping cases. There are a handful things to think about first:

Are you shipping a desktop machine or a laptop?
If you are shipping a new PC model, a larger desktop that is older, or a laptop, those are all very different things to take into consideration. Computer shipping boxes of the laptop variety can be found by doing a Google search that considers size, protection, and shape. If you have hung on to the original packages, then use that. If not, try using tight-fitting packaging in a box that will stand up to heavy loads. Talking to your neighborhood post office is a good way to get supplied.

How far will the computer be shipped? (How will it be shipped as well?)
If you’re sure the computer will be on a truck and going to just the very next town, you can probably reduce some of the packaging. The number of people handling it and taking care of the order can be small. If however, it is going around the world, you need to take every necessary precaution since it would be nearly impossible to prove who broke the computer.

What is the weather like? Go climate-controlled, and read all fine print!
Weather is important! Do not forget about it. If you are shipping somewhere Arctickey in winter, then it is important to use weather-resistant materials that are appropriate. A slim box that is not closed in on the sides is not going to block that Siberian wind. If your laptop is going somewhere like Brazil, then you need to make sure it is in climate controlled conditions. If it is sweat-down-your-back hot outside, consider a truck’s cargo hold. Computer components can and will melt if it’s too hot.

Sometimes, no matter how well you prepare, accidents can still happen. So make sure you insure your package and track the shipment.
