Geico Car Insurance Dress Commercial

March 20, 2011.

Over the years there have been many advertisement campaigns put out by many car insurance companies. Take Allstate for instance, the commercials previous to the ones out now created scenes where accidents had happened or in the process of happening, with a spokesman narrating what was going on.

At the end of the commercial the scene would close with him saying, that’s Allstate’s stand, are you in good hands? Upon the success of that campaign, they created a newer and better ad series featuring Dean Winters and the effects of mayhem. These commercials usually ended up causing some kind of off the wall accident which would leave the victim paying for the damages themselves. The point of the commercials was to inform people to switch to Allstate where they could save money and be better protected from mayhem, like Dean.

Around the same time that these commercials were coming out, Geico decided to start creating an ad campaign of their own. These ads although at an early stage of development when they were trying to find their niche, were still quite funny in their own right. One such advertisement depicted a man sitting at his counter reading the newspaper when his wife walks up behind him. She asks him if the silver, v cut dress she’s wearing makes her look fat and he’s so entranced in his column, he says you betcha honey. The announcer then comes on and states, in the time it takes you to pull out the sleeper sofa, you could save hundreds on car insurance. It would be later on that Geico would create the image of the Gecko and grow their popularity on television.
