Some Wood Writing Desks

May 9, 2012.

Many people have some trouble picking out the best wood writing desk for them, and it’s not hard to see why that is.  For one thing, there are many different designs of desks.  Some are made in a more decorative fashion that makes them small and appropriate for places like dining rooms or lounges, while there are also the far more traditional wood writing desks which are only going to work for traditional offices or maybe even a bedroom if that is where your home work area is.  The good news is that while it might be hard to pick out the perfect wood writing desk for you, there are many good options which means out there somewhere, the right desk is just waiting to be picked out.

One major consideration that is overlooked way too often when picking out a desk is what it will look like at home.  Yes, cherry and mahogany are beautiful dark woods that often make gorgeous dark furniture – but will that look fit in with the bedroom or study at home?  Many people make this mistake, assuming that the best looking piece of furniture in the store will be the best at home.  Bring along pictures of the rooms where your new writing desk will be put in, and try to imagine any desk you’re looking at in that room.  You may find that what looks best in the store doesn’t seem to fit with what you’re seeing in the picture.

When looking at wood writing desks, it’s important to consider things like the weight of the wood (oak is heaviest), the look, and how long it is going to last.  Believe it or not, there are major differences between ash, walnut, oak, mahogany, cherry, and teak desks and the main characteristics of each can go a long way to determining which desk is actually best for you.
