When a wedding rolls around there is lots of excitement in the air. The bride has lists of things that she has to take care of.
The bridal gown, the minister, the reception, the honeymoon. Of course, one hopes that her groom is helping her along on all of these things she needs to do. There is also her mother of course that has waited many years for this special day and is very willing to jump in and help plan for this momentous day.
With all of the work that the bride, her groom and her mother have to do, it only makes sense that the mother of the flower girl should take care of the flower girl dresses. The bride herself will for the most part take care of the flower girl gifts at a later stage in the game.
When the mother of the flower girls have to start thinking of dresses she may be confused as to the type of dresses there are out there. And there may be something to be confused about. Should she go with formal, casual, beach, custom made, buy online, get from a local store? All these are questions she will have to consider.
The type of dress she gets will have to do with what type of wedding it will be. Will it be a formal wedding or a more casual one? If it’s a formal wedding then you will need formal dresses. You can’t buy a flowing, cotton, white beach dress for a formal church wedding. If it’s in the winter velvet will be most appropriate and if in the summer a taffeta or organza will work well.
As far as if you should be having the dresses custom made of buy them locally will also depend on the bride. Does she want you to use the same material as her bridesmaids? If so then you will have no choice but to have them custom made. If she only wants you to have the same color then you have more leeway.
The best thing to do is to sit down with the bride and go over these things before you start looking for a dress so you will know how to proceed.
