If you need to get cheap curtain rods, one thing to look into is getting a wooden curtain rod.  Unlike the telescoping metal and plastic curtain rods, wooden rods are far less likely to break if there is pressure put on it.

Have you ever had a shower curtain rod that ends up getting snapped when moving it.  Most shower rods are designed to be very strong in only one direction: horizontally.  When it is struck perpendicular to the length of the stick, they’re not designed to be strong that way.  Hit them once, and they often break, meaning you have to go out and spend money on another rod.

Wooden rods aren’t like this.  Wood is strong both directions.  Wood that is strong lengthwise is usually strong width wise as well. While it is still completely possible to break a wooden rod, it is much more difficult.  Usually wooden poles won’t break with any sort of normal use or movement.  About the only time the wooden poles will break is if kids are playing swords with them, and they’ll usually break other things before they break.  Telescoping metal and plastic rods break easily because they’re designed to be strong only in one direction.
One problem with wooden poles is sometimes you can’t get them to fit right, and they’re either too big, or too small.  If they’re too big by only a few millimeters, try using a sander to wear down the edges a few times until the pole fits appropriately.  If it is  too small to fit the wall and it has rubber stoppers, try pasting something inside one of the stoppers until it fits. Usually wood bits with super glue works, sometimes, if it’s only a few millimeters too small, sturdy cardboard can work for filling in enough space to make the wooden pole stick up correctly.
